Tim Berners-Lee

Sir Tim Berners-Lee is a British engineer and computer scientist who worked as an engineer in telecommunications. He is best known as the inventor of the World Wide Web. Initially he made a proposal for an information management system in March 1989 and he implemented the first successful communication between a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) client and a server via the internet in mid-November that year. In October 2009, Berners-Lee admitted that the initial pair of slashes (“//”) in a web address were, “unnecessary”. Remarking that he could easily have designed web addresses without the slashes, he remarked, “There you go, it seemed like a good idea at the time!”
